More than 80% of enterprises are choosing to take a hybrid strategy in adopting cloud technology, making use of multi-cloud deployment models to take advantage of scalability and flexibility in their workloads. AWS Outposts extends AWS infrastructure, services, application programming interfaces (APIs), and tools to virtually any datacenter, co-location space or on-premises facility. This is ideal for organisations that need to support latency sensitive applications, as AWS Outposts can help businesses run applications where they need them to be located. AWS Outposts also allows data to be processed locally, while still providing access to the full range of AWS services running in the nearest AWS Region, which means moving data to the cloud for long-term archival is easier. AWS Outposts also allows clients to meet data residency requirements because the workloads run locally on AWS Outposts.

For some businesses there are legacy applications that are difficult to migrate from on-premises to the public cloud due to latency-sensitive system interdependencies between the various components.
