Vodacom eases cost burden for job seekers

Monday, 6 June 2016

The cost of accessing employment opportunities online - which is often the costs of browsing the internet - is cited as a major stumbling block for job seekers in South Africa. To remove the cost burden, Vodacom has partnered with South Africa’s leading and most reputable career websites to launch the NXT LVL (pronounced Next Level) zero rated career website. The zero rated website will enable job seekers to browse job sites, upload their CV’s and apply for available positions free of charge when accessing Vodacom partner career sites. These career sites include; Careers24, PNet, JobMail, Career Jet, Giraffe, Career Junction, SA Learnerships and Indeed.

“By introducing this platform, Vodacom is aiming to enable customers to access job sites without worrying about the cost and in turn make a meaningful contribution in addressing unemployment. From here onwards, job seekers will be able to go onto the internet to look for jobs free of charge”, said Vodacom Chief Officer, Consumer Sales and Distribution, Jorge Mendes.

According to Stats SA’s Youth Labour Market report (Q1: 2008–Q1: 2015), of the approximately 19.7-million working-age youth (15 to 34 years), 9.8-million were not economically active. 6.2-million were employed, and 3.6-million were unemployed. According to the report, "over the period 2008–2015, key labour market rates deteriorated by a larger margin among youth compared with adults, and the frustration of not finding employment has led many young people to become discouraged and exit the labour force altogether".

“For many of our customers, the NXT LVL career site will open up a new world of possibilities that makes finding a job more convenient and significantly more accessible”, concludes Jorge

The NXT LVL career site forms part of a youth sub-brand within Vodacom which has been created to enable youth to achieve their full potential - by giving them easy access to education and career resources.  NXT LVL will provide affordable products such as data centric bundles to ensure that South Africa’s youth are confidently connected and empowered at all times. NXT LVL will also offer free access to NXT LVL E-school for learners and NXT LVL Discover, our established graduate development programme.

To access the site, customers must log-on to www.vodacom.co.za, click on Services, then on NXT LVL Careers
