Vodafone Egypt has announced the expansion of its investments in Egypt’s sports sector through two strategic partnerships aimed at strengthening the role of technology in developing the sports ecosystem and delivering a more seamless, connected and engaging experience for fans – one that reflects the passion of Egyptian audiences and meets the highest global standards.
This step is part of a long-term vision that goes beyond the traditional concept of sports sponsorship, moving from media visibility and logo placement toward genuine investment in digital infrastructure, enhanced fan experience, and the deployment of the latest telecommunications and technology solutions in service of the sports sector.
Guided by its belief that technology’s true value lies in its ability to improve people’s lives and everyday experiences, Vodafone Egypt continues to apply its expertise in telecommunications, digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence and the Internet of Things to support vital sectors such as healthcare, education, entertainment and financial services. Over the past 28 years, Vodafone Egypt has invested more than EGP 125 billion
in the Egyptian market, strengthening digital infrastructure and expanding technology’s role across various aspects of life and the economy.
The company’s investment in sports is a natural extension of this direction, harnessing technology to enrich the fan experience and open new avenues for engagement – reflecting the special significance of sport for millions of Egyptians and its power to unite people of different backgrounds and generations around shared experiences and emotions. Within this sector, football holds an exceptional place as Egypt’s most popular sport, making the development of its fan experience a central part of Vodafone’s vision for investing in the future of sports.
Vodafone Egypt’s new investments comprise two complementary tracks: the first is a strategic partnership with Al Ahly SC and United Sports. At the same time, the second is an independent partnership with Red Castle, covering the naming rights of Al Ahly Stadium and the development of its fully integrated technology infrastructure.
First: A Strategic Partnership with Al Ahly SC and United Sports
Vodafone Egypt Named Technology Partner and Main Sponsor of Al Ahly SC
Vodafone Egypt has signed a strategic partnership with Al Ahly SC and United Sports, becoming the club’s technology partner and main sponsor under a collaboration designed to introduce a new model of sports sponsorship – one that combines mass fan appeal, technology and advanced digital services.
The partnership includes a range of commercial, marketing and technology rights linked to the club, built on a genuine alignment between the two institutions, which share a long history of trust and an established institutional culture rooted in a continuous pursuit of excellence and innovation. On this basis, Vodafone Egypt and Al Ahly SC aim to use technology to create real value for fans and build a closer, more interactive relationship between supporters and their club.
As Al Ahly’s technology partner, Vodafone Egypt will apply its capabilities and expertise in telecommunications and digital solutions to enhance the fan experience and deliver more seamless, interactive and connected services across the club’s various points of contact with its audience.
The partnership extends well beyond the Vodafone logo appearing on the first football team’s jersey. It includes support for Al Ahly as a comprehensive sporting institution – encompassing youth and junior teams and women’s sports across governorates, reflecting a long-term vision to contribute to the advancement of the sports experience in Egypt.
The partnership was announced at an official ceremony attended by H.E. Mr. Gawhar Nabil, Minister of Youth and Sports, along with many ambassadors, senior officials, public figures, and football and sports personalities – a gathering that underscored the strategic importance of the partnership and its role in supporting the future of Egyptian sports, deepening integration between the public and private sectors, and reinforcing the role of technology and institutional investment in developing the sports ecosystem and elevating the fan experience.
Minister Gawhar Nabil praised the partnership, describing it as an advanced model of cooperation between the sports sector and the private sector that supports the state’s efforts to develop and enhance the fan experience. He said: “Partnerships with national companies have become a fundamental pillar in supporting Egyptian sports and nurturing champions, serving as a key driver for developing the sports sector and reinforcing its sustainability.
The partnership between Vodafone Egypt and Al Ahly represents an advanced model of the cooperation we seek to promote between the sports sector and the private sector, contributing to the development of sports infrastructure and the use of technology and innovation to elevate the fan experience. We are confident that initiatives like this will have a positive impact on the future of Egyptian sports, strengthening its ability to keep pace
with the best global experiences and reinforcing Egypt’s standing on the regional and international sports map.”
The tripartite partnership between Vodafone Egypt, Al Ahly SC and United Sports embodies a new model of integration among major institutions, built on combining expertise and capabilities to deliver genuine, sustainable value for Egyptian sports and its fans.
Commenting on the partnership, Mohamed Abdallah, Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone Egypt and Vodacom International markets, said: “Our partnership with Al Ahly marks the beginning of a new chapter in a relationship spanning more than 25 years between two institutions that hold a special place and have a real impact on the lives of millions of Egyptians. We are not talking today about traditional sponsorship or simply a logo on the first team’s jersey, but about a strategic partnership built on a shared vision and common ambition, aimed at delivering real value to the Egyptian fan and a different kind of experience for supporters.”
He added: “At Vodafone Egypt, we believe technology is the cornerstone of progress, and that its role in improving services and transforming citizens’ experiences for the better must extend across all vital sectors. Our investment in sports is a natural extension of this vision, not a standalone step – we aim to bring Vodafone’s global expertise to bear in ways that meet the needs of Egyptian society, elevate the fan experience, and deliver the model that the Egyptian fan truly deserves.”
Second: Vodafone Launches “Vodafone Stadium” in Egypt and Develops Its Fully Integrated Technology Infrastructure in Partnership with Red Castle
In a separate investment track, Vodafone Egypt has signed a strategic partnership with Red Castle, securing the exclusive rights to name Al Ahly’s stadium “Vodafone Stadium,” while also becoming the stadium’s exclusive technology partner.
This partnership marks Vodafone Egypt’s first entry into the sports stadium sector at this scale, reflecting the company’s commitment to long-term investment in the digital infrastructure of Egyptian sports – extending beyond commercial sponsorship to active involvement in designing and operating a smart stadium in line with the best global standards.
Vodafone Egypt will develop the stadium’s fully integrated technology infrastructure, including design and planning, project management, systems integration and technology consulting, alongside providing the telecommunications solutions and digital services that will support stadium operations and the fan experience. Vodafone Cash will also hold exclusive rights within the mobile-wallet category among telecom operators, making it an accepted payment method inside the stadium, contributing to a faster, easier and more secure experience for fans.
The proposed technology ecosystem will cover every stage of the fan journey – from ticket booking, arrival at the stadium and entry procedures, through connectivity, digital payments and interactive in-stadium experiences, to a smoother and more organized departure.
Through this ecosystem, Vodafone Egypt aims to create a digitally connected stadium with a flexible, scalable structure that allows for the integration of new technologies and services in the future, ensuring it keeps pace with the rapid global evolution of smart stadiums.
Captain Mahmoud El Khatib, Chairman of Al Ahly SC, said: “Today marks a historic milestone in the journey to realize one of Al Ahly’s greatest ambitions, embodying the fruit of a strategic partnership built on shared vision and mutual trust between Al Ahly and Red Castle, to establish a sporting landmark worthy of Al Ahly’s history, its fans and future generations. Today, with Vodafone joining as a principal partner and technology partner,
we begin a new chapter that goes beyond building a football stadium – delivering a world-class model for the fan experience and setting new standards for the future of Egyptian sports.”
Mohamed Abdallah, commenting on the partnership with Red Castle and the launch of Vodafone Stadium, said: “The launch of Vodafone Stadium is a new step in our vision to invest in the future of Egyptian sports, and a true embodiment of Vodafone’s global expertise in smart stadiums. We are not simply aiming to put the Vodafone name on a stadium – we are building a complete experience based on connectivity solutions, digital infrastructure and interactive services, making the fan’s journey easier and more enjoyable from the moment they book a ticket and enter the stadium until they leave, still immersed in the details of the experience.”
He added: “Football is no longer just 90 minutes on the pitch – it is a complete journey experienced by the fan, and technology has become an essential part of every detail within it. Through Vodafone Stadium, we aspire to deliver a model that matches the best global experiences in using technology to serve the sports sector, placing the Egyptian fan at the heart of the experience in a way that reflects their passion, loyalty and aspirations.”
Mohamed Kamel, Chairman of Red Castle, commented on the partnership with Vodafone: “This partnership marks a pivotal milestone in the development journey of Al Ahly Stadium. Choosing a leading global brand of Vodafone’s stature as the naming-rights and technology partner is a clear affirmation of the strength of the project’s vision, scale and future potential. It reflects its significance, investment weight and ability to attract major global brands. This confirms the trust that leading institutions place in our capacity to deliver a project built to world-class standards – one that will redraw the future of sports, entertainment and fan experience in the region. We are not just building a stadium; we are establishing a smart, connected destination that will set new standards for innovation and digital transformation in the sports sector.”
Vodafone Egypt affirms that its partnership with Al Ahly SC and United Sports, together with its independent partnership with Red Castle, form part of a broader strategic direction to invest in Egypt’s sports sector.
By combining long-term sponsorship, digital infrastructure, electronic payment solutions and advanced connectivity, Vodafone Egypt seeks to set a new standard for how technology and institutional investment can serve sports – transforming the fan experience into one that is more seamless, connected and engaging.
